For a “dog guy” like me,  is heartbreaking to see the  many dogs, left away, living on the streets here in Brazil. Thinking about them, i have been helping, the NGO Projet Street Dog Adorers  (Projeto Adoradores de Vira-Latas, in Portuguese) every time I can.

The PSDA is a shelter where rescued animals live until they find a second chance. Currently they have almost 250 animals, including dogs and cats, puppies and adults. The primary mission of  the Project is to help the animals that roam the streets neglected. They are based in Viamão, a city really close of Porto Alegre, where i live, and its ran by Paula Correa, the founder of the NGO, who says, to keep the project, they have the sympathy of good people.

I have nothing but admiration for Paula. She makes an amazing work using the social networks, wich help her find home to the animals, partners to emergency rescues and donaters to paid veterinarians and all shelter’s costs.

So, I’ve decided to auction some of my original pieces to help her to get a better condition to these animals, and why not start with theDark Knight piece above.

Its important to say (,my dear American Vampire fan,) that this new gig won’t change anything in my regular (and main) job as American Vampire artist, so dont worry. Im still doing it regularly.

This is a great way to start the year, and thanks a lot for the supporting messages on twitter, facebook and, well…internet in general. Its really cool to know that a huge fanbase like Batman’s is as excited as we are and we will do our best to make it worth.

It was amazing to see how American Vampire got into people’s taste, selling really well (and being #1 in the famous NYTimes List) the both volumes published so far. We were nominated for most of the awards in the industry as well, winning the traditional Eisner and Harvey Awards (an honor I’ve never imagined i’d have). Thats all really cool indeed.

However thats not the coolest. The coolest is being working with Scott Snyder and Mark Doyle every day. The most talented and awesome guys I could work with. There is no honor like that and I’d like to thank them for that.

2011 was an important year as well, because I’ve finally started to write stories myself. I have co-worked in scripts before, but I was scared as hell to write alone (and still am), but Tune 8, a web-comic published in Brazil by IG Jovem, made me to overcome this fear. I’m really enjoying doing this now, so it’s a pleasure to say that Tune 8 will be published in US next year. Really soon it will be announced and new stories with these characters are already being written. I’d like to thank the fellas Rafa Coutinho and Rafael Grampa for pushing me on this and trust me to do it.

People asked me what’s next. Keep up doing this. Keep working in cool projects, with the best people I know. For me, thats the only way to do great comics.
